Check out a salmon and crabbing adventure in Winchester Bay, Oregon at the mouth of the Umpqua River. This trip is great fun and typically good for your freezer.
We start the morning by throwing crab pots and then we’re off for a day of salmon fishing. We are trolling herring for beautiful fall Chinook salmon. All of these fish have sea lice (a sign of freshness from the ocean) and the meat is fire engine red.
The fishing is done from a 23 ft. powerboat. It is safe and comfortable. Usually there are four anglers on the fishing and crabbing adventure. Depending on where the fishing is best we may fish the tidewater near Reedsport or possibly fish the ocean if the conditions allow it.
These salmon average around 18-20 pounds with 30 pounders a common occurrence. The limit is two Chinook salmon per person per day. At the end of the day we pull your crab pots so that you can enjoy a crab and salmon feast from your Winchester Bay, Oregon adventure.
I do these trips from late July through August. We also do bottom fishing trips if that is what you’re after. The weather is usually beautiful and the trips are popular, so book well in advance.
You may see whales, seals, seabirds, and other creatures inhabiting the Oregon coast.
Things to bring: your fishing license, sunglasses, sunscreen and appropriate clothing (jacket, windbreaker, rain gear).
Other activities while visiting the Reedsport and Winchester Bay area are riding dune buggies in the vast Oregon sand dunes, walking the beach and exploring the beautiful Oregon Coast.
